If you’re a social-media enthusiast, am sure most of you would have come across videos of celebrities pouring ice waters on themselves to create awareness about ALS.
What is Ice-bucket Challenge?
This was the challenge created by ‘ALS’ association to spread awareness and fight against Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, that affects nerve cells in your brain and spinal cord.
To raise awareness against the same; a new trend has been set forth in the social media called the ‘Ice Bucket Challenge’. This precisely involves dumping a bucket of ice water over your head and challenging another person to do the same within 24hours.
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg did the honors by taking on his own social networking site to share his attempt on the ice-bucket challenge. His video has been shared and liked for more than 3oo,ooo times. And has indeed promoted and created awareness about ALS to a large extent.
And, Bill gates was challenged by Zuckerberg to dump a bucket of ice water on his head within 24hours or to donate $100 to ALS charity.
1) Watch Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg performing the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge
Microsoft founder Bill Gates took up Zuckerberg’s challenge and found even a better way to do this.
2) Watch how Bill Gates takes on the challenge.
This was also taken on by US President Obama who wasn’t daring enough to plunge himself in ice water though he was nominated by many, instead took to donating to the charity.
Sport stars Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna, were the ones who bought it to India.
Even Bollywood has started dousing itself with this challenge, topping the list is our Hottie ‘Bipasha Basu’, then Riteish Deshmukh and Abhishek Bachchan took up the same.

5) Sonakshi Sinha has also joined the campaign through self-nomination, you go girl!
Personally I liked this one, for she put the message across very bluntly ‘Please Donate’.
‘Nobody nominated me . But i still took the challenge . And now i nominate you ALL to do what i just did. If you’ve already showered, skip the ice water. If you haven’t, go ahead by all means. BUT please Go to www.als.org to donate.’ – Sonakshi Sinha
This is the first time, an icy bath has gone viral in social media and has ended up creating awareness and raising funds at the same time. It is estimated that around 23million has been raised through the same.
And the award for the most funniest of the Icy plunge video goes to ‘Riteish Deshmukh’. 😀
