“My mother completed her education in Bhilai, Chattisgarh and after her marriage, she moved to Hyderabad where she started to work as a Teacher. My father and mother got separated after 10 years of being married because my father was having an affair and didn’t want us anymore.
I was in 3rd grade when this happened.
My mother was emotionally broken. She always had the option of taking me and going back to my grandparents or, she could have remarried herself. She didn’t choose to do either. She chose to work instead. She put her foot down and fought against all odds. She worked really hard to make ends meet and could just about manage it all. Being a single parent, she made sure that I completed my schooling and always paid my fees on time. I know how difficult it was for us at that time.
She knew that I liked dancing and got me admitted into the best dance school in the city. We couldn’t afford it, but she wanted to give me the best of everything and so she worked harder to make sure I was able to dance.
She then got me admitted to an engineering college as well, because I wanted to be an engineer. She never compromised on the quality of things she gave me. I always got the best of clothes, best of schools to study in, you name it and I had the best of what my mom could give.
Today, it’s been 2 years since I completed my engineering. I’ve been working for 2 years and I am doing good for myself. But can I call myself a self made man? No. I am made of all the sacrifices that my mother made. I am made of all the hardships that she faced. I am, because she is.
My mother has been working for over 25 years and as a teacher she has been able to inspire and touch many lives. No matter what I do, I wouldn’t be able to thank her. But through her life, I want all those single mothers to derive inspiration. I want them to know that they’re really strong. In fact, stronger than us men.
This is my way of expressing my gratitude to all those single mothers who’re working hard trying to give their children better lives.”
