Little Eli Thompson was born prematurely on March 4th, weighing at only 6 pounds and 8 ounces. However, it was Eli’s lack of a nose that really shocked doctors. The baby boy has an extremely rare malformation known as complete congenital arhinia, which causes no nasal passages or sinus cavities to form. His condition is so rare that it only affects one in 197 million new births.
Despite his rare condition and premature birth, Eli is perfectly healthy in every other way, and the Thompsons are thrilled to finally have their adorable son at home.
Eli’s proud mother, Brandi, set up a Facebook page to bring attention to this rare conditions and to share her son’s life with the world. The new parents have also decided not to have Eli undergo any plastic surgery until he grows up and decides on his own to go that route. “Until the day he wants to have a nose, we don’t want to touch him,” Brandi says. “We have to take it day by day. We’re going to do our best to make sure he’s happy. He’s perfect the way he is.”
